Air

As part of its Sustainable Development Plan, Paris-Beauvais Airport has set up an air quality measurement system. This system guarantees reliable measurement of the emissions generated by the airport's activities and provides local residents with transparent information.

Air quality monitoring stations

To ensure the highest reliability of measurements and following a study and an inventory of pollution sources, two stations were installed, which allowed the identification of areas where concentration curves overlap. One station is located with the dominant winds, very close to first inhabitants in Tillé, near the airport and road traffic of the platform: at the airport entrance, opposite Terminal 1. The second station is not far from the refueling depot near parking P3.

Measurements, analysis and maintenance of the stationare carried out by ECOMESURE, specialized company manufacturing equipment. DEKRA is an independent company that ensures and confirms measures and reports.

6 pollutants are monitored 24/7 at the airport :

  • Suspended particles such as PM10, PM 2.5, and fine particles like PM1,
  • Nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide,
  • VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).

One goal : inform local populations and give efficient answer in the event of a prolonged pollution peak.

Beehives at Paris-Beauvais Airport

Another action in order to monitor air quality around the airport, around fifteen beehives have been installed at Paris-Beauvais Airport since 2014, straight under the planes that land and take off.

Bees are among the most sensitive animals to air pollutants. Their mortality, the quality of their honey and the structure of their pollen are accurate elements that provide a right understanding of air quality. Analyses done so far have not shown any pollution sign due to air traffic on the environment.

Doing so, SAGEB wants to make a sustainable contribution to biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
